Soccer loses and other weekend links

The men's soccer team season ended with a 6-4 loss to Drake in the NCAA tournament. The high scoring affair put an end to the uneven season. The nice point is that they ended the season well and now regularly expect to make the playoffs. For those who missed it, the women's team got bounced from the NCAAs by Stanford on Friday night.

Everyone has us going to San Francisco to most likely play Stanford in the Emerald Nut Bowl.

HD gave Steve Aponavicius a helmet sticker despite his one miss.

The other two guys over at ESPN have us going to the Meineke Car Care Bowl

Apon deserves some love. He only missed one FG all season. He's hit 37 straight PATs. And this from a former walk-on! He continued to improve every year and obviously put in a ton of work. Nothing more frustrating than a bad kicker (other than prevent defense and a stubborn refusal to handoff to the best player on the field). Thank you for saving my TV from further damage due to thrown objects, Steve.

Apo was the most consistent kicker BC has had in years. He just did not have a lot of range, but inside the 25, he was golden. And he could kick the pressure kicks (remember Navy in the bowl game). He will be missed.

I love the bowl match-up. Two academic schools. Similar type of athlete that is hard-working and has a chip on their shoulders. Great player in Gerhart going up against a fairly good defense (and freshman sensation Luke). Basically a home game for Stanford, but should be a great game.

Great season for BC soccer. I attend mass at the Drake Newman Center so I know they are excited to have knocked off BC.

I hate to be a downer, but...
1) Has anyone seen Stanford play this year? I seriously hope we don't get matched up against them (in San Fran, no less). They will crush us.
2) Apon was consistent, yes. But am I the only one who finds it frustrating that the only reason he didn't miss many is because we almost never even tried kicking outside the red zone? A little more leg would be good for next year.

Drake? WTF is "Drake?" Don't they make delicious cake-based snacks? They have a soccer team? That we lost to? Ugggh.

If Uncle Dave shows up and our receivers wipe the Crisco off of their hands before the game, we should be able to score against Stanford. That said, things could get ugly, and Stanford could hand us our lunch. I don't really care this year. All of this is gravy to me, and putting Shinskie in high-pressure situations now should be good for his future.

Stanford's defense might be questionable at times - and our Offensive Coordinator will have all sorts of surprises in store for the Cardinal. Isn't it great to have one of the most imaginative offensive minds on our team?

I have no doubt BC will represent well in the bowl game. Stanford is tough, but so is BC. I have no confidence in my quarterback, but if he doesn't turn the ball over, we'll win.

After the Navy kick, everything Apo gave was gravy. And that's my thought on that.

BJK with the early sarcasm award.

Might Shinskie improve with 15 more practices? Maybe? Possibly? Doubtful? Yeah, probably. Santa? Are you there?

Playing Stanford would be cool. More national interest. More intrigue. Greater chance to get run over by Gerhart than around by Noel Devine. Love the challenge.

Kuechly named ACC defensive back of the week

anyone else think that Kuechly reminds you of the kid from FNL new season, also named luke?

Hoping to play in San Fran for a good pac 10 opponent. We put a hurting on stanford we might be ranked. We'll keep it close if nothing else.

Hilarious that Sid Vicious doesn't even have a an ESPN player profile . . . Helmet sticker with no link . . . ESPN giving Stevie Heisman no love

Does anyone have a video link to Kuechly's 4th down stop on Saturday?

I was listening it on the radio and I am dying to see it in person. Meter went absolutely nuts over the "wunderkid."

@Gordon's

Good luck finding one. ESPNU screwed up royally on that one, and were filming the sideline to see if the Fridge was going to challenge the previous play. They completely wiffed on the most important play of the game.

I wonder if any ND players will want to transfer to BC. I'll take that Golden Tate guy.

Stoops already publically passed on the job today.

To be honest, I think Brian Kelly would be a great hire for them (especially in terms of regional recruiting). All the talk seems to go to the sexier picks, but he's the one that scares me.

BTW - The ACC would never allow BC to play West Virginia in the Meineke Car Care Bowl and FSU to play Stamford in the Emerald Bowl, would they?

There would be 15,000 to 20,000 WVU fans, maybe 3,000 to 5,000 (a real stretch) BC fans and 10,000 general fans in the 73,000 seat stadium. The ACC won't allow that, will they? They want a team with NC roots in that Bowl.

I say UNC to Charlotte, FSU to Nashville and BC to San Francisco.

Great City, good west coast exposure, etc. - and all three bowls are in the "also ran" category - unless there is a good matchup.

BC vs Stanford would be all of that. A very good match-up pitting schools with very good programs and academic integrity, etc. against each other - West vs East blah, blah, blah.

Eagle1-
Not sure about transfers, but it's open season on ND recruits. This O-lineman from Cincinnati St. Xavier (same school that brought us Kuechly, Albright, Larkin, and others before them) could be a target:
