BC lost its Elite Eight game against Syracuse Saturday 1-0. The game was scoreless until the Orange broke through in the 79th minute. It marks the end of the season for BC, which saw the team finish third in the ACC Atlantic prior to this NCAA run.
Soccer is one of the consistently strong programs at BC and is under appreciated (by this blog) and most of the BC community. Congrats to the team on the season.

The good and the bad of the weekend
Aside from football there were plenty of highs and lows this weekend for BC Sports.
The Good
The Good
The Men's Soccer team advanced to the Elite Eight with a win over Georgetown. The game came down to Penalty Kicks with BC prevailing. They take on Syracuse next.
Also, Men's Hockey continued their hot start with a win over RIT.
Women's Hockey stayed unbeaten with a win over Northeastern.
The Bad
I don't know what happened to the basketball team. They looked young but promising against Michigan State. They followed that loss by sleep walking through a game with a respectable UC Irvine. That loss you could rationalize. The final game of the Wooden was against a bad Santa Clara team. That game was a must win and BC blew it. It wasn't even close. The team looked lost. The defense was lifeless and the offense consisted of Eli Carter chucking it.
Young teams are going to be inconsistent, but I would never expect wild swings like this. Now Jim Christian has to get a hold of things and get the guys ready for Penn State.

Soccer upsets Notre Dame and other links
The Men's Soccer team got the weekend off to a good start by upsetting Notre Dame Friday night. The Irish were ranked No. 1.
The Heights went deep on Boston's College Athlete Bill. Bates weighed in too. Bates -- as usual -- was careful with his words, but the impression the article gives is that he thinks it is all a mistake. It sounds like bad law that doesn't cover the complexity or the specifics of college athletics. I still feel like this is political grandstanding by local politicians.
This was from earlier in the week, but Deadspin charted college teams' recruiting success vs. their recruiting success. It just happened to focus on the Spaz's years and as we know, both areas suffered from neglect under our old coach. Believe it or not though, even with Spaz's poor recruiting, he underperformed with those players.

Hockey crushes RPI and other links
The Hockey team quickly bounced back from their disappointment in Michigan to thrash RPI 7-2 at Conte on Sunday. Seven guys scored and Demko had 25 saves. The team faces Wisconsin this Friday.
The BC men and BC women's soccer teams both lost to UNC over the weekend (men | women)
Even with our impressive showing, AA and HD still don't have us bowling. I am not worried. If we get to six wins, we will go somewhere. And doesn't everyone feel pretty good about our chances to get three more wins?
You might have missed this last week, but CBS's Jon Rothstein was at Basketball practice last week and tweeted out a series of quotes and observations about BC. Donahue had a lot to say. It is worth scrolling back through Rothstein's timeline to read the entries.
This isn't BC-specific but I thought TCU's attendance issues should be on our radar. The school has had BCS-level success lately and renovated their stadium, but remains a private school in a big Metro market. I don't know if there is a specific lesson for BC, but I don't think we should expand capacity when we renovate Alumni.

Last scrimmage update and other links
Addazio sort of curtailed his scrimmage a bit and turned it more into a partial scrimmage and partial practice. The Heights and Globe both had write ups. The big concern is Bordner's continued absence, leaving Walsh and Marscovetra to battle for the back-up role. There is also no clear No. 2 at running back. Addazio was vague when explaining Moore's injuries, but he will miss the year.
Big things are expected of Reggie Jackson this season in OKC.

I mentioned this on the blog, but it is worth noting that Bruce Pearl's NCAA suspension is up a year from now. If Donahue struggles, Bates will have to at least explore Pearl as an option.
