Up and down day for BC Hockey

The BC Women had another dominant season end short of a championship. This time losing to Ohio State in the NCAA quarterfinals. Sometimes facing a hot goalie at the wrong time is all it takes. I feel for the seniors who were part of this great run. I also feel like this level of success will result in multiple championships soon. It is just about things going right at just the right time.

Fortunately the Men's team is still alive. They eliminated Merrimack in Game 2 of the Hockey East opening round and move on to face BU next week at the Garden.

Men's Hockey still alive; Women's season over

The Men's team is one step closer to pulling off an incredible run. Friday they beat BU in the Hockey East Semis. BC held the lead throughout, but BU made it interesting late. Now it is on to UMass-Lowell. BC has plenty of Hockey East titles, but this one would be one of the most unlikely. The team couldn't buy a goal in the final few weeks of the regular season. Now they can put that slide far, far behind them. I won't even get into what else winning the Hockey East will do (no jinx).

In disappointing news, the Women's team had another great season come up short. Facing Wisconsin in the Frozen Four, the women lost a defensive battle when Wisconsin scored with seconds left. With how great the program is, it is only a matter of time before they start a string of national championships.

Baseball's rough weekend; Women's Hockey to Frozen Four and other links

After starting ACC play with a win over FSU, the Baseball team fell back down to Earth. They lost both games of a double header Saturday.

The BC Women's Hockey team is headed back to the Frozen Four.

Softball improved to 2-1 in ACC play after beating Virginia.

Finally, BC Basketball was terrible this year. It was totally forgettable, except for one issue: playing spoiler. It turns out beating Syracuse was an issue come selection time. So we can revel in that...

It took OT, but the BC Women's Hockey team is headed to the NCAA Final. BC trailed for much of the game, but tied it up late in the 3rd. Shortly into OT, Haley Skarupa scored the game winner.

BC plays Minnesota Sunday for it all. If you can't make it to New Hampshire for the game, you can watch a stream live on NCAA.com.

National attention for Women's Hockey

The dominance of the Women's Hockey team is starting to gain national attention. On the eve of their Frozen Four, ESPN posted a long article on the team. BC is 0-5 in Frozen Fours and all the remaining teams are tough. It starts with their game against Clarkson on Friday.

If they win the championship, they would only be the second women's team to go undefeated.

Another title for Women's Hockey

Forget about Football and Basketball for a minute and be thankful we still have BC Hockey. The Women continued their amazing and still undefeated season by winning the Hockey East Tournament. As an added bonus, they beat BU in the Finals to win it all.

They now enter the NCAAs as the No. 1 overall seed and a heavy favorite. Congrats to Coach Crowley and now go get the big title!

Women's Hockey to Frozen Four and other links

The Women's Ice Hockey team is one step closer to their championship. They advanced to the Frozen Four with a 5-1 win over Clarkson.

Unfortunately the news for the Men's team wasn't as good. After losing Saturday, they will need Game 3 on Sunday to advance in the Hockey East Tournament.

Eric Hoffses wrote a good recap of the first spring scrimmage.

Lacrosse crushed UConn.

The baseball team lost both ends of a double header with Louisville.

Ohio recruit Luke Farrell is scheduled to visit BC.

Hanlan makes 1st team ACC and other links

The ACC named Olivier Hanlan to their 1st team All Conference. Despite his strong showing, he only received one vote for the Player of the Year award.

The Women's Hockey team dropped the Hockey East Championship to BU. Aside from losing, the game wasn't that big of a setback. They are the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament and take on Clarkson in the opener.

Florida State swept the baseball team over the weekend. BC had its chances. They blew a save Saturday night. Let's hope they rally for next week's series with Louisville.

Men's Hockey picked up a big commitment from goalie prospect Joseph Woll.

Women's Lacrosse beat Notre Dame 16-5. Next up: Louisville.

Steve Donahue is the leading candidate for the opening at Penn.

Women's Hockey keeps rolling and other links

The Women's Hockey team cannot be stopped. Monday they took down Princeton. With the snow storm brewing, the stands were basically empty. Let's hope as the unbeaten streak continues, fans start to rally around the team.

ESPN thinks we need to improve our WR play in 2015. Even with a new offensive coordinator and some new talent, I don't see us every becoming pass happy.

Jim Christian and staff are pursuing German prospect Lukas Meisner . He would bring some much needed size to the 2015 recruiting class. At this point Christian can be selective with the class and only add players he really wants. I still expect a transfer or two to help fill out the roster next year.

Men's Hockey losses to Maine and other links

The Men's Hockey team came back down to Earth Sunday, losing to Maine 4-2.

The Women's Hockey team shutout Vermont.

Women's Basketball lost to Syracuse.

The Heights got a statement from BC regarding the Cost of Attendance issue:

“Boston College is concerned with continuing to pass legislation that increases expenses when the vast majority of schools are already institutionally subsidized. The consequence of such legislation could ultimately hurt student-athletes if / when programs are cut.
This legislation further segregates student-athletes from the general student population by increasing aid without need-based consideration. Legislation already exists for student-athletes in need through pell grants and the student-assistance fund. We have concerns that the Federal Financial aid formula is sufficiently ambiguous that adjustments for recruiting advantage will take place.”

I still think BC will end up doing what every other school does.

1984 team returns and other links

BC will honor Doug Flutie, Gerard Phelan and other members of the 1984 team during the Syracuse game. The game is about the Seniors, but I hope returning stars help attendance.

The Women's Ice Hockey team continued their undefeated streak by defeating Yale Tuesday.

This article on the lack of popularity BC Sports in Boston made the rounds Tuesday. At this point I am beyond caring. BC needs to market better, but winning big is the only way our bandwagon will ever get attention of the local pro sports fans.

A Syracuse blog took a look back on Addazio's relationship with Syracuse and what could have been with their hiring history.

Mixed night for Hockey

After a disastrous night Friday, the BC Men's team bounced back and evened their series with Notre Dame. Gaudreau led the way with two goals and two assists as BC beat the Irish 4-2. The teams will play Sunday afternoon to see who advances in the Hockey East Tournament.

The news wasn't as good for the BC Women. They lost to Clarkson 3-1. The loss eliminated the Eagles from the NCAA Tournament.

Weekend Roundup: Hockey good, basketball bad Part 184

The Hockey team swept Vermont this weekend. Of course that wrapped up the Hockey East regular season title, but what else do you expect come "Trophy Time"?

Not to be outdone, the BC Women won their Hockey East title too.

Basketball lost to Notre Dame. I will write more about the loss on Monday, but the big issue was BC's inability to slow them and we couldn't cover our issues with 3-point shooting.

The Women's Basketball team lost to Syracuse.

Here is another article about Dick Kelley by a writer who knew him for 30 years.

Don't look now, but Baseball has won three in a row.

Addazio knows that with the departure of his seniors, there is a drop off in talent among the returning players.

Not our night

It wasn't supposed to be like this. We were supposed to build on our momentum, beat BU and send Jack Parker into retirement. It was going well. BC was up 2-0 and putting the pressure on. Then things all fell apart. BU tied the game quickly and then went ahead and won 5-2. BC really hurt itself with dumb penalties. This leaves us out of the Hockey East Tournament. Let's hope everyone regroups for the NCAAs.

The BC Women will break through at the Frozen Four...just not this year. They lost to Minnesota in OT. It is a tough pill to swallow, but it doesn't dampen another strong season.

Women headed back to Frozen Four

The Women rallied to beat Harvard 3-1 in the NCAA quarterfinals. It is on to the Frozen Four in Minnesota next week. The Women's Frozen Four begins next Friday.
